Cognitive Map

 cognitive map is a visual organization and representation of knowledge. It shows each major points and ideas and the relationships among them. It provide information about each concept, idea and their inter relationships. It helps learners to understand a concept by connecting each and every relationship easily.

This assignment contains cognitive maps for plus one and plus two students, based on the units “The Sleep” and “Match Box”.

The poem “To Sleep” from the unit 5 ‘Harmony of Life’ written by William Wordsworth, who is known as the high priest of Nature, is an exquisite poem that presents to us some of the finest sights, sounds and movements of Nature. The major concepts like the poet, type of poem, theme and poetic devices are identified. Then the details regarding the poet including sub concepts like details about Wordsworth, his theme and works are included. Then in the next main concept type of poem is mentioned as sonnet. In the poetic devices, all the poetic devices like personification, rhyme scheme, metaphor, Onomatopoeia, Imagery, oxymoron and hyperbole are identified and in the specific concepts every detail regarding these poetic devices from the poem are included. Then the major theme is ‘the power of sleep’ which is also included in the cognitive map.


The story “Match Box” in the unit 1 ‘Flights of Freedom’ written by Ashapurna Debi describes about the unhealthy relationships between husband and wife in an Indian family. It is a unit which describes about women empowerment and the chapter explains about how women are like a matchbox which is quiet and calm but it has the power to burn anyone who interferes her privacy and questions her self - respect.

 The cognitive map includes every main concepts, sub concepts and specific concepts in the chapter Matchbox. The main concepts include author, character, themes and activities. The details about author include her image, date of birth, awards, etc. The characters were exposed and there character sketch is briefly specified. In the main concept theme, the creator has included women empowerment and unhealthy marital relationships in India. In the major activities, the activities to improve speaking, reading and writing are explained and each activity is specified in the map. The cognitive map also included an animated video which shows the story ‘Match Box’ in an interesting way which will attract students.

YOGA PRACTICE

Based on our B.Ed curriculum, we were asked to take a class to our first year students about a yoga pose and to make them understand how to perform the yoga pose. 



Butterfly Pose or Badhakonasana

I took the session to the particular group of first year students. First, I made them do the warm up sessions and then introduced my yoga pose and its steps to them. I demonstrated well. Then I asked them to do the butterfly pose with me. It was an interesting experience for us.

Community Living Camp DAY 5

 Title: Arangozhiyal

The day began with the news reading of Emerald house in which they gave a brief idea about the previous day. The next session was a "Workshop on Community Productive Work, Mask making and Distribution" which was taken by Aawani Aswan who is a student teacher inour college itself. She informed us before hand itself to bring cotton cloth, needle, compus, thread, fevicol and pencil. With her proper guidance, we made our own 3 layered cotton mask. 

In between the session, we the Sapphire house members served the tea and snacks as student teachers were engaged deeply into the mask making process. It was a session which made the theme of the camp Education- creative and social aspects meaningful. 

The cultural programme of Sapphire house beginned at 11.45 am. keerthi and Viji were the anchors of the programme. I am the captain of Sapphire house and I arranged every very programme and was really tensed. We began with a group song which included every member of the house, then there was the individual songs of Nidhi, Olivia and Keerthi which was really pleasing to the ears. Then we presented two videos with a theme of 'Raja Ravi Varma painting'. It was very difficult to dress like the painted ladies, but we planned carefully and made it a success and everyone appreciated us for our effort. Then there was a tableau on the theme of covid.Then we presented a tribute to empowered women, by presenting, Indira Gandhi, Sania Mirza, Malala Yousafzai, Kiran Bedi, etc along with ordinary women. As the title of the day, it was the last day of our camp and we decided make it memorable. So we planned a mass dance at the end of the programme and it made everyone happy and very Student and teachers danced with us and we considered it as the Kalashakkott of our camp. I am really happy that everything went well as we planned. We were able to show our team work, trust understanding and cooperation. As a captain and as a member of the house I am so happy. Then I read the news report of the whole day.




After lunch we had the valedictory function. Our principal Dr.Preetha T.L gave an introduction and asked students to share our reflection regarding the camp. Keerthi, Ankitha, Raji James and me shared our views about the camp. Personally, for me the camp was really interesting and it helped to develop moral values, leadership skills , problem solving skills, sense of togetherness, creativity and so much more. The camp was a memorable one.

Community Living Camp DAY 4

Title : Mirror


After the third days recreational activity many of us were physically weak. But as it was an interesting day and camp we were excited about our fourth day. 

The day began with the news reading of Ruby house. They included every activites, time, sessions and about recreational activity in their news report. Then there was a tea break from 9.45 to 1.00. The programmes of fourth day was coordinated by Emerald house. They gave us snacks and tea at proper tea break time. 

The next session was from 10 to 12.30pm. it was a session titled ' Know yourself ' by Mr. Rahul MV, Assistant professor in Education, GCTE, thycaud. I have no words to explain as his session was really interesting and created a feeling to look into ourselves. He made us understand that knowing ourselves, loving ourselves etc are very important in our life. He made the session interesting through mind games and thought provoking exercises.

After the session we had our lunch break. 

From 1.15 to 2.30pm was our mock parliament session. We chose a ruling party leader which was Keerthi, opposition party leader which was Nibin and Speaker who was Aswathy. 

When the parliament started, we were nervous, but after sometime it was so much fun. There was an energetic, fire spitting opposition and I was in the opposition party and I really enjoyed the session. Teachers were amazed at the performance and appreciated us.

From 2.30 to 3.15 there was cultural programmes conducted by 'Emerald House'. We were all excited to watch the programme. Parvathy was the anchor of the programme and she had done an amazing job. They presented various programmes like group song, comedy sessions, individual songs and dance performances and winded up with the group dance which was so interesting and pleasing to watch. 

By 3.20 the tea and snacks were served. After the tea break students were directed to clean the campus programme. It was a cleaning session planned for second day. As it was cancelled campus cleaning was included in the fourth day. We the Sapphire house were assigned to clean the second floor of the institution and we done our duties neat and clean. 



The day came to an end at 4 pm and we left the college being excited to show them what we are going to do on the next day, as it was Sapphire group's day to organise.

Community Living Camp DAY 3

 Day 3

Title : Sancharam


The day 3 was 'Visit to Recreational Center'. After a fruitful discussion we decided to visit 'green tsavorite' farm. All of us were excited and happy as we were having a short period to relax. 

The journey started from our college at 9 am with 45 students and 6 teachers in CDS tours and travels bus. On the way we were picking up our friends too. I got into the bus from attingal. I was so excited as we were enjoying the mood of a tour. Everyone was enjoying the music and dancing. At 10.30 we reached the farm. It was very quiet and calm. We felt refreshing and enthusiastic. They provided 4 rooms to put our luggage and we got a refreshing drink and biscuits. 



Then there were various activities arranged for us. The session began with a treasure hunt which was very interesting. Then there was various group activities as well as individual activities. I enjoyed the rope crossing very much. At first i was slightly scared, bit decided to give it a try. It was really an amazing experience. 




Then we had our lunch at 1.30 pm. It was a delicious meal. After lunch we scattered all over the farm. We rested for sometime and then again back to our activities. Some were engaged in rope climbing, bamboo raft rowing, kite flying, bicycle riding, etc. It was really enjoyable. Then there were mud volleyball activities in which students and teachers engaged and it was very interesting to watch and play. 




We finished the activities at 4.15 and fresh up and got ready to have our tea and snack. We enjoyed our tea time together. This was the last trip in our BE.d life and it was worth spending there. It was a day filled with fun.

The day two was planned well by the organizing committee, teachers and students. But unfortunately there was a strike and we were forced to cancel the second day programmes and they were rescheduled into the coming days.
